Identity[]
Saber's True Name is Sir Daniel (サー・ダニエル), the Knight of the Flowering Valley in Arthurian legends and in his own Arthurian romance, and one of the Knights of the Round Table.
Legend[]
Sir Daniel von Blumenthal was the heir of the kingdom of Blumenthal in Prussia, a country known for its beautiful valleys of flowers. He was raised mostly by the relatives of his mother, the von Blumenthal family, after her death as he was unaware of his father's identity. His relatives, however, told him that his father was a brave and strong man that made his mother fall in love with him at first sight.
For a time, he bid his time learning the ways of politics and high society, eventually growing tired of his every day life that could only be described as predictably mundane. Daniel yearned for something exciting, something to change his life. Then, as if by surprise, his music teacher began singing a song about King Arthur's adventures and his most recent achievement to pass the time. Daniel, fascinated by this person, journeyed all the way to Britain to see him.
" The song that spoke of King Arthur was sang quietly with joy by my music teacher who couldn't easily be moved. If such a person exists, I want to meet them. "
In spite of his princely upbringing, Daniel was able to fight against the likes of Percival and Gawain, both of who were some of the strongest knights of Arthur, as a part of his test before being accepted. Before long, however, a herald in the form of an invincible giant riding a camel arrived with a message from an enemy potentate, King Matur. The herald demanded Arthur to swear immediate fealty to Matur, explaining that his country was defended by the contrivances of an inventor who had created a mobile palace carried by war elephants, invincible giants (of whom he was one), and a mechanical dragon whose scream was so intolerable that it made even the staunchest fighting men cover their ears, rendering them useless. On the other hand, Matur’s herald said that submission to his master brought its attractions. The land was fertile, the conditions of vassalage were light, and the women were stunning.
Arthur bid for time while he assembled his troops, but in the meantime Daniel slipped out of the castle intending to fight Matur alone. On the way, he met with a series of adventures which, at the time, seem nothing but sideshows which would delay him from his real purpose. These include rescuing a damsel from the attentions of an evil dwarf, after himself being saved by her from a magic net, and overcoming a horde of bellyless monsters. But these adventures enable him to acquire a magic sword which was crucial to the final victory over Matur.
Because of his valor, Daniel was then made a vassal-king of Arthur’s over Matur’s former Kingdom of Cluse, and became one of the candidates to substitute the King after his fall. But, deep down, Daniel didn't wish to become king since he already found joy in simply serving King Arthur and being with his fellow knights. However, due to it being an order rather than a request from Arthur, Daniel had no choice but to watch over Cluse in his king's stead -- an action that rendered Daniel unaware of the future events that would take place in Camelot. His lack of attendance in Britain made Daniel oblivious of the things that happened to his king, such as Lancelot's betrayal, Tristan's departure and the Battle of Camlann. Once he was given news of what happened, Daniel was overcame by a guilt so great he dedicated himself to wander around the world looking for adventures to distract himself, unable to keep the promise of ruling Camelot after Arthur's death. He managed to reach Avalon, but he died before experiencing the utopia due to his shame.
" My king... If only I was there, then maybe... "
Appearance[]
Due to his Germanic origins, Daniel is notable to have medium blond hair, brown eyes and light skin. He is described to be the very definition of a prince, but Daniel laughs this off as a joke as he claims that the only one who would ever have that description is his king.
